Throughout Operation Protective Edge, we as Communal Organisations are meeting daily to ensure the community’s response and engagement is effective and appropriate. We have been monitoring and responding to the political reaction, both domestically and internationally, the media coverage, receiving updates and advice from CST on the impact in terms of antisemitism and intimidation, monitoring demonstrations and boycotts and ensuring the safety of our Israel Tours.

But many members of the community are asking what they can do to help. We are a richly diverse community with different views on the wider issues relating to the Palestinian Peace Process. And thousands of you have already attended rallies and demos. But there are practical things that you can do NOW if you wish to show that you stand with Israel and the Jewish community.

Doing something to support Israel in its campaign against Hamas to protect its citizens against threats from terrorist rocket attacks and terror tunnels need not be at the expense of the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination in their own state and to live in peace.

If you would like to make a visible difference to the way that Israel is perceived in the UK, here are a number of practical things that you could do.

Write to your MP

Many MPs have been overwhelmed by the correspondence that they have received criticising Israel or advocating boycotts and sanctions. Correspondence has a real impact. Make sure your MP hears what YOU think. If you support the fundamental right of Israel to exist, in the right of its citizens to security and in the essential duty of its democratically elected government to ensure that security, write to or email your MP. Ask them to forward your letter to the Foreign Secretary. Your letter can be as short or as simple as you like. You can find your MP and their contact details here and here is a model letter or email you can adapt.

Don’t sit in silence if you feel that the media misrepresents Israel

If you see or hear coverage in the media that misrepresents Israel or the Community, is unbalanced or doesn’t tell the whole story about the current conflict, tell the relevant channel or publication that you are unhappy with their coverage and what the truth is – you can complain privately to editors or publicly to newspaper letters pages and radio call-in shows. There are key messages and facts here together with contact details for the main media organisations.

Stay informed

So you can explain what is happening to your friends, family and colleagues. Sign-up for We Believe in Israel’s email updates which tell you the latest facts and what action you can take to help. Sign up here.

Report Incidents

If you experience or know of any antisemitic incident, either call the Police or the CST on 020 8457 9999 and let them know what is happening in your area. Also, why not put your name forward as a CST volunteer?

Why not donate?

There are many appeals currently being organised by communal organisations to which you might wish to contribute.
